As no-one can show a fish the way to the ocean, so no-one can help you to find your own path. Is such a statement extreme and even depressing? So...why teachers, prophets, creeds? Do they have a truly essential role in this world? They probably aren't always useful, as history has clearly demonstrated. In fact teachings, good advice, instructions and rules are useful only when their positive message doesn't stop in the ear that perceives them. They must travel to the brain first, be understood, then absorbed and, finally, they must reach the heart. If you understand a concept, in fact, but you don't make it your own, you don't weave it into the fabric of your very 'self', it is totally useless, independently from its worth. Therefore, as each fish must follow its instinct to find the ocean, the river or the lake that it needs according to its nature, so each human being should discover his or her own personal path, making use of the signs and indications they encounter along their trek.
